Minute 27: "The Bathtub"

Just catching up on your podcast now, felt the need to put my two cents. So when I first saw this scene in theaters, the cut goes straight to Lois in the tub. Caught me completely off guard. There was a trend in Hollywood of bigger name actresses going nude in films, ie Reese Witherspoon in Wild, Scarlett Johanson in Under the Skin. Granted it wasn't as revieling like the others but still a big decision for a blockbuster movie like this. Of course there was a lot of backlash towards these actresses but thankfully enough people saw it as a powerful message of not being afraid of the female body. So when I first saw this scene, it made me think about Any Adam's choice to do it. I felt the dialogue went with it too on first viewing. It wasn't just Clark saying he doesn't care about what the media says in the movie but what Henry is telling Amy about who cares what people might say about her decision within this scene. That was at least my initial take on it the scene. We give a lot of credit to Snyder and his visions but never forget the strength that comes from the actors that implement them.
